How to buy diamonds

While choosing a diamond, you should first of all pay attention to 4 Cs, which are essential in this matter: color, cut, clarity and carat weight. Possessing this information and knowledge, you won’t let anybody dupe you.

Color

Diamonds with very little color are the most highly valued and are priced accordingly. A little color can diminish a diamond's brilliance. Diamonds vary from absolutely colorless (they are extremely rare) to light but noticeable yellow or brown tint.

Cut

A good cut of a diamond results in its sparkling. Even with the best clarity and color bad cut spoils the whole impression of a diamond. Do not confuse the cut of a diamond with its shape. Although the cut of the diamond may affect the value of the diamond, the shape, is largely a matter of personal preference and does not affect the value significantly. It is the work of a master cutter that allows the diamond to be cut in such a way as to permit the maximum amount of light to be reflected through the diamond, and that's a great reflection on you. It is the cut that enables a diamond to make the best use of light.

Clarity

Diamonds, which have some flaws or intrusions, are rarely found and highly valued. Clarity is based on the number, size and location of intrusions found in the diamond.

Carat weight

The weight of a diamond is measured in carats. Since larger diamonds are rarer than smaller diamonds, diamond value tends to rise exponentially with carat weight. Depending on the sum you want to spend and a finger for which you are going to buy it, you may give preference to different carat weight of a diamond.
The most important thing you should mind while choosing a diamond – its certificate, where you’ll find all information you are interested in.
